Community Gardens Volunteer Day:

Community gardening brings neighbors together and empowers people to supplement their food supply by growing it themselves. The Food Bank provides gardening expertise, volunteer help, tools, seeds and more to area community gardens. No prior garden experience is needed – a Food Bank gardening professional will be there to direct the group. Projects may include gardening, clean-up, plant rescue, plant shows or produce collection.

Thank you to our volunteers: Jeff Whitney, Laura Steele, Devon McKenna, Stephanie Soto, and Kimyung Kim.

MPI Georgia Supports the Atlanta Community Food Bank

Run, don’t walk – to register for the Annual Hunger Walk Run in support of the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) on Sunday, February 25.

The MPI GA team will join thousands of people to help raise awareness to fight hunger in our community. The $500 chapter fundraising goal helps nourish the 1 in 6 people who face hunger in the Greater Atlanta Area.

Together, we can make a difference. Your donations and participation:

  • Ensures children in our community don’t go to bed hungry
  • Offers hope to struggling parents trying to make ends meet for their families
  • Provides senior citizens assistance so they aren’t forced to choose between paying for medicine or food

What you or your company can do to support this important mission:

  • Participate in the Run/Walk event on Sunday, February 25
  • Send a donation to the ACFB; contact Laura Steele
  • Support chapter members who are collecting donations

December Re:Connect Announcement

MPI Georgia gives back to the Atlanta Community Food Bank through the Food Sorting Event and Philanthropic Lunch

MPI Georgia members got into the holiday spirit at the ACFB food sorting event in early December. Our 16 volunteers helped sort 6,629 pounds of salvaged food (equating to 4,453 meals).

Additionally, we collected nearly $2,000 in donations at the Philanthropic Luncheon hosted in conjunction with IAEE and PCMA. These funds will generate 7,720 meals to those in need in Atlanta and the surrounding communities. Thank you to members who brought canned goods and toiletry items to the luncheon event.

It was a great week to support the ACFB… especially before the winter storm. Our next event is the Hunger Walk/Run on February 25, 2018. MPI Georgia is sure to have another fun, rambunctious team participating in the walk. Stay tuned for more details.

Upcoming Events

  • February 25:  ACFB Hunger Walk
  • Spring 2018:  Volunteer at ACFB Community Gardens
Thank you for your continued support. Questions? Please contact Laura Steele, Co-Chair of Community Outreach.

The MPI Georgia chapter has designated the Atlanta Community Food Bank as our 2017-2018 official non-profit that we will support through donations and volunteer hours throughout the year.  The Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) distributes more than 50 million pounds of food and grocery products each year through a network of more than 600 partner nonprofits that provide food assistance to families and individuals in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Each week, 80,600 people in 26,300 households are served through ACFB partner agencies.  We hope you will join us in giving back to this great organization that gives back to so many in our city.  We will participate in the following to support the ACFB in the 2017-2018 MPI Georgia Year:

  • July 29, 2017- Food Sorting Day- A success with 9,603 pounds of food sorted, resulting in 6,311 meals for the community.
  • September luncheon donation collection- we raised over $300 for the ACFB! Thank you to all that donated.

Upcoming Events

  • February 25, 2018: ACFB Hunger Walk- MPI Georgia will have a participating team & collect donations
  • Spring, 2018: Volunteer at ACFB Community Gardens
  • Donations collected at the May MPI Georgia Luncheons

For each dollar donated, the ACFB is able to provide four meals.  Every little bit counts!

Thank you for your continued support. Questions? Please contact Laura Steele, Co-Chair, Community Outreach.

MPI Georgia was well-represented at the Atlanta Community Food Bank(ACFB) sorting day on Saturday, July 29, 2017. Our volunteers had a great time connecting with other ACFB volunteers, in addition to helping out the Atlanta community.

During our three hour shift, we sorted 9,603 pounds of food. This completely filled up 360 cardboard boxes that will result in 6,311 meals for the community. It was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. If you haven’t volunteered with the food bank in the past, you must make plans to join us. It’s a feel good volunteer experience and great way to interact with your fellow members.

We hope you will be able to support our MPI Georgia designated non-profit, the ACFB, throughout the year. More volunteer opportunities will be announced in the coming months.
